PETER HAVLAT

Peter has a keen interest in orchestral playing, and has played with several orchestras under several conductors. Memorable performances include those with the Academy Symphony Orchestra under John Wilson, and with the Australian Youth Orchestra under Elim Chan. As a chamber musician, Peter has performed an extensive range of repertoire in a wide variety of groups – particular highlights include Hans Abrahamsen’s ‘Flowersongs’, conducted by the composer, and Bach’s Lobe den Herrn, meine Seele (BWV 69A), directed by Ian Ledingham.

Outside of flute-playing, Peter is very invested in more academic pursuits. Recent projects include deep investigations into the musics of Francis Poulenc and Sergei Prokofiev – composers in whom he has nurtures a great interest. Peter hopes potentially to pursue some vein of academic study in a postgraduate degree after finishing at the Academy next year (whilst keeping up the flute, of course).

Peter has written:

Francis Poulenc / Sonate pour Flute et Piano (1957)
